Goals
At the end of the event participants will be able to:
- Recognise the indications and note possible technical difficulties of submucosal endoscopic dissection (ESD) in oesophagus, stomach and colon.
Recognise precisely the dissection planes and the anatomy of the third space. - Have acquired proficiency in the appropriate endoscope movements for ESD, and how they differ from movements in other therapeutic endoscopy techniques.
- Recognise the characteristics of electrosurgical systems, their mechanism of action and parameters to be used during the different phases of ESD, POEM, GPOEM, STER, Zenker’s diverticulotomy.
- Recognise the characteristics of the hydrodissection system, its mechanism of action and parameters to be used according to the conditions of the area to be dissected.
- Know the characteristics of endoscopic scalpels and how to make the most of their use.
- Efficiently handle the manoeuvres and instruments of haemostasis during ESD and third space endoscopy.
- Acquire basic skills in the recognition and closure of perforations with the use of endoclips.
- Recognise when and how to use available traction and counter-traction systems to facilitate dissection.
- Recognise one’s own limitations and weaknesses in order to identify which phases of dissection the participant should emphasise during further training.

Students
Specialists on gastroenterology, with previous knowledge of digestive endoscopy and conventional endoscopic therapy (polypectomy, mucosectomy).
Course details
The learning methodology will be active and eminently practical, student-centred. A small part of the course will be devoted to theoretical concepts, with an update on fundamental and advanced concepts, and a time specifically for discussion between students, speakers and course monitors. Audiovisuals will be shown on the techniques that the students will have to practise afterwards, encouraging the participation of the students in order to resolve their specific doubts. The rest of the teaching time will be practical using advanced simulation models and animal models, with the constant support of the monitors.
The monitors will accompany the students throughout the learning process. The acquisition of specific skills will be supervised and will be recorded in an evaluation checklist. Students will be allowed to repeat the manoeuvres as many times as required until they are correctly performed.
