Sealing and hemostatic agents in minimally-invasive thorax surgery. Lobectomy by VATS in the pig

October 23 - 24, 2017
Sealing and hemostatic agents in minimally-invasive thorax surgery. Lobectomy by VATS in the pig

Course Features

Description

Videothoracoscopic lobectomy (VTC) has established itself as the surgical technique of choice for the treatment of lung cancer, pulmonary metastases and benign lung diseases. The efficiency of the endoscopic approach has been collected in several occasions in the medical literature and includes the following advantages: lower morbidity, greater postoperative respiratory function and oncological results superimposable to those obtained by thoracotomy. The pattern of ramification of the pulmonary vessels presents a great interindividual variability, and that characteristic conditions that its approach requires a detailed knowledge of the locoregional anatomy and that, consequently, the surgery is exposed to potential vascular accidents or misinterpretations of the disposition of the tracheobronchial tree. The course responds to the need to know the sealing and hemostatic agents, as well as the techniques available for the control of intraoperative hemorrhages and management of parenchymatous air leakage in the context of videothoracoscopic lobectomies.
This course does not have any sections.

Goals

Main goal:

Acquire surgical skills to perform measurements of hemostasis and aerostasis in lung lobectomies via VATS.

 Specific objectives:

  1. Know the indications of application of sealing and hemostatic agents in the context of performing endoscopic major pulmonary resections.
  2. Application of sealants effectively for correct aerostasis and hemostasis.
  3. Be able to perform a top left lobectomy VATS in the experimental model

Course details

The teaching methodology used will be active and eminently practical, centered on the student. A small part of the course will be targeted to theoretical concepts, with an update of the fundamental concepts and advanced, and a time specifically for discussion among students, lecturers and course monitors. Audiovisuals will be projected on the techniques that the students will have to practice later, enhancing the participation of the students to be able to solve their concrete doubts. The rest of the class time will be practical using advanced simulation models and animal models, with the constant support of the monitors.
