Course Features

Description

Workshop promoted by the Spanish Society for Laboratory Animal Sciences (SECAL), within its XVI Congress. This is a hands-on activity, preceded by a brief theoretical introduction on the concepts and work planning.
This course does not have any sections.

Goals

The student can acquire the necessary skills to perform complex experimental techniques in the pig.

Under supervision of the teachers, the students will perform the following procedures:

  • Epidural anesthesia.
  • Ultrasound-guided vascular access (Seldinger technique).
  • Carotid, jugular and femoral surgical approach.
  • Basic principles of laparoscopic surgery.

Students

The workshop is aimend to professionals accredited for functions C (carrying out the procedures in pigs) or F (designated veterinarian), described in the current Spanish laws on protection of animals used for scientific purposes (Real Decreto 53/2013 and Orden ECC / 566/2015 ).

Course details

No students: minimum: 8; maximum: 12.

Duration: 4 h.

Scheduled time: 15:00 – 19:00 h.
