Advanced Laparoscopic Surgery in Gynaecology in Animal Models – 9th ed.
In the 21st century, we are witnessing a continuous revolution in technology applied to surgical techniques. Laparoscopic and robotic surgery are clear examples of this. The development of these surgical techniques, as well as their refinement, require training and learning that must be carried out outside the actual operating room and the daily setting of our patients. Pelvic trainers, simulators, and human specimens are models that facilitate learning, but the animal model allows the surgeon to obtain an excellent approximation of a living, palpable organism, where they can learn, maintain, and improve endoscopic surgery and perform specific training for each of the different surgical specialties. This course will feature a team of expert professors in laparoscopic surgery, who will teach students the theoretical basics and different exercises on the porcine model, using advanced surgical equipment in laparoscopic surgery.
The learning method is theoretical-practical and consists of the tutored students performing the scheduled exercises and surgical procedures, alternating between surgeon and assistant. All activities will be carried out with maximum interaction between the student and the tutor, in order to resolve any doubts.
To achieve our objectives in this course, we have specialized faculty who will teach students in theoretical and practical classes using pig models, utilizing advanced surgical equipment for laparoscopic surgery. The course will provide students with the necessary training to reach an advanced surgical level through practical and effective training in different surgical techniques for dissection of different anatomical spaces, suturing, and resolution of possible complications.
Course objectives
Improve skills in gynecological laparoscopic surgery through practice on experimental animal models, which will be progressively adapted to the students’ level, reaching a maximum of three levels:
• Level 1: Abdominal wall incisions, pneumoperitoneum, open and closed entry, umbilical, Palmer’s point, salpingectomy, oophorectomy.
• Level 2: Continuous and interrupted sutures, intracorporeal and extracorporeal knots, total hysterectomy, bladder, ureteral, and intestinal dissection and repair, surgical specimen removal, morcellation, use of hemostatic material.
• Level 3: Pelvic and para-aortic lymphadenectomy, colposacropexy, prevention and repair of vascular injury.
Attendees
Specialists in Obstetrics and Gynecology who want to develop their learning progression in laparoscopic surgery, both at a basic and advanced level.
