An intensive workshop designed to train thoracic surgeons in the rapid and effective performance of emergency thoracotomies and chest trauma management techniques, supplemented by practice in ultrasound-guided emergency pericardiocentesis using a live porcine model.

Course objectives

Recognise the indications and contraindications for emergency thoracotomy.
Perform the surgical technique for emergency thoracotomy and its variations correctly.
Realizar una pericardiocentesis de urgencia guiada por ecografía.
To develop skills in controlling intrathoracic haemorrhages, damage control procedures and internal cardiac compression.
