Emergency procedures in thoracic surgery and damage control techniques in a porcine model
An intensive workshop designed to train thoracic surgeons in the rapid and effective performance of emergency thoracotomies and chest trauma management techniques, supplemented by practice in ultrasound-guided emergency pericardiocentesis using a live porcine model.
Course objectives
- Recognise the indications and contraindications for emergency thoracotomy.
- Perform the surgical technique for emergency thoracotomy and its variations correctly.
- Realizar una pericardiocentesis de urgencia guiada por ecografía.
- To develop skills in controlling intrathoracic haemorrhages, damage control procedures and internal cardiac compression.

Specialists in thoracic surgery and senior residents (R4–R5), members of the Catalan Society of Thoracic Surgery.
