Practical Training in Complex Cervical-Thoracic Manoeuvres on Cadaveric Models – 4th ed.

10/04/2026 · 11/04/2026
Places available: 13
Teaching hours: 11

This innovative and highly practical course focuses on performing various cervical-thoracic and mediastinal surgical procedures, such as anterior and transmanubrial approaches, tracheal and supra-aortic vessel dissection, and sternal and rib osteosynthesis, among others. All of these can be useful both for the management of severe trauma and for the planned resection of apical or mediastinal lung tumors.

A mediastinal tracheostomy will also be performed, which, although an extremely rare procedure, involves complex tracheal and mediastinal dissection.

For educational, ethical, and legal reasons, cadaver models (human specimens) are a suitable method for practising complex surgical procedures, such as those included in this course.

Course objectives

  • Consolidate theoretical and practical knowledge related to complex tracheal and cervicothoracic approaches and procedures.
  • Develop practical skills in complex and uncommon surgical techniques and maneuvers, using human cadavers as training models.

Specific goals

Consolidate theoretical and practical knowledge of the surgical procedures listed below:

  1. Tracheal, laryngotracheal resections and mediastinal tracheostomy.
  2. Approach to the upper thoracic inlet and anterior Pancoast tumours.
  3. Transmanubrial and cervicomediastinal approach for urgent or scheduled surgery.
  4. Myocutaneous flap.
  5. Rib and sternum osteosynthesis.
