Spinal Instrumentation and Approaches. 10th Lleida and Pyrenees Spine Course
The specialty of orthopaedic surgery and traumatology covers teaching in spinal pathology; however, given the particular complexity of this type of surgery, a subspecialisation is required. In general, three to four years of training after the MIR (Medical Internship Residency) are necessary to be able to perform spinal surgery. The course is designed to teach the four fundamental techniques that any spinal surgeon needs to know before being able to successfully perform them on patients.
Fee: 2,700 €
Course objectives
The goal is to teach the five techniques that every spinal surgeon must master. To this end, there will be five work stations. Each station will have a human cadaver and a senior instructor, with a maximum of four students per station, so that each student can repeat the techniques several times under continuous supervision.
By the end of the course, students will be familiar with the following techniques:
- Anterior cervical spine surgery, with the placement of implants, both inter-somatic and support plates.
- Posterior cervical spine surgery, canal release and placement of a metal support system, as well as the different possibilities for performing it.
- Anterior lumbar spine surgery (particularly difficult) and implant placement.
- Posterior thoracolumbar spine surgery, canal decompression and placement of both intervertebral (TLIF, PLIF) and pedicle implants (two different systems are taught).
-
Lateral approach lumbar spine surgery, approach and placement of interbody implants (XLIF, ATP).
